Why Bostonwood?
Versatility and Affordability
We're often asked why choose unfinished furniture. Our unfinished - real wood products provide our customers both versatility and affordability by offering built-in functionality at manufacturer direct pricing. We offer our customers the flexibility to modify our standard furniture and cabinetry to meet their unique design needs as well as producing individual free design - made to order items upon request. Furthermore, our items can be stained, oiled, or painted according to your individual specifications.
In the furniture and cabinetry industry, much of the final cost of an item is associated with the finishing; final sanding, staining/painting, and protective lacquer coating. By offering Unfinished - Real Wood products, we give our customers not only their choice of finish, but also the ability to save money by doing it themselves. And, for our customers that prefer the services of a professional finisher, we're able to offer professional finishing from one of our service partners at significant cost savings.
We’re Members of the Local New England Community and Economy
Continuing in the tradition of classical New England craftsmanship we proudly build our own real wood furniture and cabinetry right here in New England. And our workshop is located within a few miles of our retail stores and use sustainable materials grown New England.
Not only does this assure you quality craftsmanship at an affordable price, but it also means the local economy is benefitting from your purchase without putting pressure on the environment.
We're Green
One of our core values is to exercise environmentally responsible practices throughout our daily business. In fact, we have been Green since day one, and will continue to do so for our duration and invite you to review our Green Page outlining our mission and supportive practices. Briefly however, we buy responsibly grown lumber, either burn our scraps in our furnace to heat our workshop or give it away to local children's art programs, and give our sawdust to a local farm.
Fully Assembled
Unless otherwise specified, our items are handed off to you in one piece, fully assembled. This means that you can use it the very day you leave the store if you so desire. In certain cases, our items can be built in pieces to accommodate narrow doorways or stairs. Each piece is designed and built to last for several decades.
Wood Species
While Bostonwood most commonly builds items out of eastern white pine, maple, or birch, we will build out of any domestically-grown and responsibly-harvested species. Each species of wood varies in grain pattern, durability, and figure. Please speak to a Bostonwood associate so we can help determine which species would be best for you.
